Accommodations:
Your week will begin with arrival at the state-of-the art Lazy J Grand Lodge in Ideal, South Dakota on Wednesday just in time for a steak dinner. Each morning will start with a hearty homemade breakfast, and then, after a cup of coffee or perhaps a bit of practice on our skeet range, you will head out into the field.
Pheasant shooting hours after the first week of the season are from 10:00 a.m. to sunset, which provides the pheasants time to feed undisturbed before the hunt gets started.
One of the experienced pheasant hunting guides will bring you to the field and help you to set-up and move throughout the day. In addition, professionally trained dogs are there to make bird retrieval easy, and guests are welcome to bring their own bird dogs if they wish.
While on the hunt you will enjoy lunch and snacks, arriving back at the Lazy J Grand Lodge in time for hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and an evening of relaxation. After your pheasant hunt, enjoy prairie dog shooting or enjoy a game of pool or tell stories around one of the poker tables. For dinner, you will enjoy a true hunter’s home-cooked meal to keep you satisfied until the morning. On Fridays, you can listen to live music with a local musician who plays tunes for your entertainment.
As an all-inclusive pheasant hunting outfitter, Lazy J Grand has everything you need, including ammunition, transportation to the field and back, unlimited sporting clays for sighting in weapons and getting in some practice, as well as full bird processing while you relax.
All guests will also enjoy a guided tour of the Jorgensen Land & Cattle operations and headquarters, and there are places to walk, sit outside and relax, or just enjoy a drink and some great conversation. Indoors, guests can enjoy satellite TV and Wi-Fi in the lodge, or sit outside on the patio and grill area and take in a beautiful South Dakota sunrise or sunset.
South Dakota is known for its highly variable weather conditions. Lazy J Grand Lodge recommends that all hunting guests plan for both warm and cold weather hunting conditions during their stay, and that they follow the weather conditions in Ideal, SD (57541) prior to arriving at the Lazy J Grand Lodge to plan the items they pack appropriately.
South Dakota law requires hunters to wear at least 1 piece of visible blaze orange. This can be a hat, shirt, or vest. We always recommend long sleeved shirts, sturdy and waterproof boots, chaps or abrasion resistant pants, and shooting gloves. The Lazy J Grand Lodge supplies shooting glasses (required during the hunt) and ear protection (recommended during the hunt). They stock high quality hunting attire in their Pro Shop, so don’t worry if you have forgotten any of these essential items. In cold weather, they recommend stocking hats, insulated gloves and footwear, and insulated pants/coats or a thermal underlayer. Several layers are recommended versus very thick or heavy insulated clothing items, as conditions in the field can change quickly.
